It is extremely important to hear from you about bargaining priorities!
Bargaining is an essential element in our fight for the Schools LA Students Deserve, and your participation in the process is invaluable. Our 2014-2017 UTLA-LAUSD collective bargaining agreement expires on June 30, 2017, and we are asking members to provide input in the development of proposals and priorities as we move toward bargaining for a successor collective bargaining agreement (new contract).
This successor bargaining process is distinct from the 2016-2017 contract re-opener. We are currently at the bargaining table on the re-opener, with demands around salary, class size, school discipline, academic freedom, and school restructuring.
We start from the place of knowing that we will fight at the bargaining table and in the streets for increases in base salary and protection of active member and retiree health benefits. We know these are top priorities.
As you know, bargaining is also central in our struggle to improve our working conditions, our rights, and the learning conditions of our students. In fact, bargaining should be a catalyst for joining parents, students, and community in defending and improving public education.
This survey is an opportunity to identify priorities -- in addition to the essential foundations of salary and benefits -- that will inspire all LAUSD stakeholders to fight for the Schools LA Students Deserve.
