  • STATE ACTION: Great job! State SB 1285 "the Steinberg bill" FAILS
    The Steinberg bill, SB 1285/691 that would have drastically altered seniority along the lines of the ACLU lawsuit filed earlier this year, failed to get out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee, and in fact only got three yes votes. Thanks to all of you who made phone calls to legislators!

    We did it! Together, we just won a major victory for educators, students, parents and our nation!
    On Tuesday, August 10th, President Obama signed the Education Jobs bill passed hours earlier by the House by a vote of 247-161.

  • STATE ACTION: Urge the State Senate to adopt the Assembly Jobs and Education bill
    voteOn May 25, the Assembly Speaker unveiled a new Assembly budget that included nearly $6 billion more in vital education funding than the governor’s May Revision. The Assembly budget proposal increases revenues, and does not amend or manipulate the Proposition 98 constitutional funding guarantee. The Assembly plan would also increase funding for the California State Universities by $365 million without cutting basis state services and K-12 education.
