Strike financial impact to be spread over multiple pay periods

In an effort to support our members, UTLA and LAUSD have agreed to mitigate lost pay by spreading the impact of the strike over several paychecks.

Strike Payroll Impact Sideletter

This sideletter is to memorialize the agreement  between  the Los Angeles Unified School District (District) and United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) to spread the impact  of wages not earned due to participation of UTLA represented employees on strike on January 14, 2019, January 15, 2019, January 16, 2019, January 17, 2019, January 18, 2019, January 21(Holiday as applicable) and January 22, 2019 as follows:

  1. UTLA represented employees on strike during the above-referenced days shall not incur the full impact of wages not earned for days on strike listed above in the January 2019 pay period.
  2. Employees shall instead have equal deductions taken from each of the pay warrants to be issued in February, March, April, May, June, and July of 2019 for the pay impact due to days on strike in January.
  3. The applicable deductions and credits will be reflected on each check (e.g. taxes, California State Retirement Teachers System, Public Employees Retirement System, PARS, Medicare and Social Security).
  4. Should an employee resign, retire or otherwise end employment with the District before June 30, 2019, the remaining amount shall be deducted from their final pay warrant.

This is a non-precedent setting agreement and will expire on December 31, 2019.
