24th Street Elementary community has faced growing encroachment from Crown Preparatory Academy. Over the years, they have been stripped of critical resources — including their fifth grade — making them the only elementary school in the district without one. This has forced families to transfer their children for just one year, disrupting students’ education and emotional continuity.

Educators, parents, and community members have come together to push back against the privatization of their school. They’ve attended parent meetings and launched a powerful email and call campaign demanding that LAUSD restore the school’s fifth grade by the 2025–26 school year.

Crown Prep’s expansion hasn’t just displaced an entire grade, it has also taken over essential space meant for students. Classrooms for IEP services and STEM instruction have been lost, and extracurriculars like cooking classes have been eliminated due to lack of space.

This fight is about more than one grade. It’s about rejecting the privatization of our public schools and ensuring every child has access to the full range of resources they need to thrive. Join 24th Street Elementary in their fight to bring back their fifth grade and push back against harmful co-location.
