United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) is our union of LAUSD educators who have chosen one of the most intense and gratifying paths. We have the right to negotiate salaries, benefits, and working conditions as a collective bargaining agent representing more than 35,000 members. We are also part of a nationwide movement of educators dedicated to building equitable educational systems for all.
Since our founding in 1970, we have fought for and won salary increases, control of health benefits, greater school-based management, increased safety protocols, more equitable funding for schools, smaller class sizes, and so much more. There is strength in numbers.
Together, we can fight:
Join Your Union
As a UTLA member, you are part of developing our bargaining platforms and vote to approve our contracts. In addition, as a UTLA member, you will have access to group legal services, exclusive professional development and member benefits/discounts, and a community of educators ready to revolutionize the educational system.
Note: Monthly member dues build our power to win change. Dues go to supporting our full-time staff, organizing collective action, reaching out to the community, and much more. See the full breakdown of the union dues structure.
Join PACE
PACE is your voice in the political arena. In addition to joining UTLA, educators have the option to join PACE. This organization pools the resources of its members to provide funding for political campaigns aimed at protecting our students, educators, and rights. We use PACE to legally support bills and candidates who are pro-equitable education. PACE is funded exclusively by members of UTLA. By choosing to join, you are agreeing to a modest monthly contribution, in addition to UTLA dues.
If you prefer to mail your application, please print and complete the PACE application form and send to:
