City Council District 9 represents South Central LA. City Council members can provide a direct line to public services for residents and have the power to approve new affordable housing developments in their district. Each council member gets a vote on the city budget and citywide resolutions that impact thousands of LA families — like protections for immigrants, limits on allowable rent increases, and free public resources and legal services.
A parent with deep roots in South Central LA, Estuardo Mazariegos helped organize LAUSD families to take action alongside UTLA educators over our last three contract campaigns. He is a former union organizer who built a community coalition to win historic protections for tenants against bad landlords and lower rent increases in LA. Mazariegos has demonstrated a relentless commitment to making our city more affordable for working families and building strong public schools for LAUSD students.
The City Attorney is an elected position to serve as the city’s lawyer with the power to take on big corporations and enforce the laws that protect working families — like protecting communities from industrial pollution, workers from wage theft, and tenants from bad landlords.
Marissa Roy has a track record of standing up to big corporations and the Trump administration to protect families, immigrants, and workers. She is the candidate who will stand with us to keep families in LA, protect public schools, and hold corporations like Lineage Logistics accountable.
Proposition 3 would permanently continue the existing tax on California’s 2% wealthiest residents — which generates billions of dollars every year directly for classroom and instructional needs, including educator salaries. If Prop 3 isn’t passed this year, LAUSD could stand to lose close to $600 million annually starting in 2031.
State affiliates have endorsed YES on Prop 3 to fight back potential losses to public education funding. Joining educators up and down California to support Prop 3 is the first step to protecting the funding we have and setting up to fight for more.
The California Superintendent of Public Instruction oversees every school system in the state and manages the distribution of state funding to local school districts. We need a state superintendent who will work with us on real budget solutions, not cuts to staffing and student programs to balance the budget.
