United Teachers Los Angeles and community organizations united as Reclaim Our Schools LA are fighting for our schools and communities. UTLA and the community Win Our Future: We Can’t Wait Campaign is part of a statewide coordinated campaign in eleven cities fighting for fully staffed schools, fair pay for educators, and investment in schools and communities.

Los Angeles Unified School District has hoarded $6.4 billion in reserves while leaving our schools under-resourced. More and more families are leaving Los Angeles as rents climb and wages stagnate. We work in the richest school district in one of the wealthiest economies in the world. LAUSD educators are among the lowest paid in the region, creating recruitment challenges and turnover.

UTLA educators are proposing a pay structure to recruit and retain educators and investment in what our students, schools, and communities need to thrive.

UTLA and Reclaim Our Schools LA’s bargaining demands are:

• Investment in Educator Recruitment, Retention, & Support
• Fully Staffed Schools, Smaller Class Sizes, & Enrichment Opportunities for Students
• Support for Students, Parents & School Communities
  • Support for immigrant students and families and the LGBTQIA+ community
  • Investment in Community Schools, the Black Student Achievement Plan, and Ethnic Studies
  • College and career preparation support for students
  • Conversion of unused property into affordable housing and support for students and families facing homelessness.
  • Campus safety through student support, not criminalization
• Healthy, Clean, and Green Public Schools
  • Clean, safe drinking water,
  • Functioning Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning
  • Disaster preparedness and climate resilience
  • Investment in solar and other green infrastructure
  • Green space, shade, and playgrounds on every school campus
• Stability for Schools and Programs
  • Protections against program cuts, subcontracting, and other disruptions to learning and student achievement
