Now that the contract is in full effect, members going on Parental Leave are entitled to four weeks of Parental Leave fully paid by the district (Article XII, Section 10.4). This leave goes back to July 1, 2025. Members who were employed for at least 12 months and took Parental Leave during the 2025-2026 school year will qualify for a four-week reimbursement to their sick leave bank. The week of September 7, district emailed members who they identified as eligible for this retroactive adjustment. If you didn’t receive this email and believe you are eligible for this retroactive adjustment, or have questions regarding paid parental leave, eligibility contact LAUSD HR department at HRAssignments@lausd.net. The district will review the qualifying leave and make any applicable adjustments. Members can still qualify for up to 12 weeks of Parental Leave, four of which are now fully paid by the district, after which members might use their accumulated illness/sick leave or if a member’s accumulated illness/sick leave has been exhausted, they will receive 50% of their salary for the remainder of the 12 weeks. This win is a significant improvement for members and their families and a direct result of what we can win when we fight together for what educators, students, and our communities deserve.
