As Chapter Chairs and Community School Coordinators of LAUSD Community Schools, we call on the district to immediately uphold Article XXV, Section 4.0(a) of the collective bargaining agreement, which grants Community Schools Local School Leadership Councils the authority to have “decision-making purview over all site-based professional development.” We demand that LAUSD comply with this provision by allowing all Local School Leadership Councils at Community Schools to determine the subject matter of their banked time professional development, except for state-mandated training.
To meet the diverse needs of our schools and communities, it is essential that all stakeholders—including educators, staff, and families—have the autonomy to collaboratively plan professional development tailored to the unique needs of each school site. This flexibility is crucial in ensuring that we can effectively address the challenges and opportunities within our communities. We stand united in our commitment to maintaining the integrity of the collective bargaining agreement and ensuring that our schools have the resources and support needed to thrive.
We demand LAUSD follow our contract now and give stakeholders full autonomy over banked time professional development.
