After a week in which Carvalho was everywhere in the media taking credit for student progress, this should have been the session where LAUSD came through for the employees who made that happen. Instead, LAUSD came to the table with more of the same: movement on some issues, but nothing on threshold issues with a price tag attached. LAUSD is still proposing a 2% salary raise a year for two years. They are still rejecting any improvements in class size, PSW ratios, PSA ratios, School Psychologist ratios, and other staffing improvements. They are still rejecting accountability for existing class size commitments. They have not made any commitment to investing in Special Education inclusion programs At the separate healthcare bargaining table, LAUSD is continuing to try to force cost increases onto employees after 2026. At the UTLA Bargaining Team’s request, LAUSD has agreed to weekly bargaining sessions to move the process forward. Sessions are scheduled with the district for 10/27, 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, and 11/20. We know from the other employee unions that LAUSD is showing them the same disrespect in bargaining that they are showing us: no meaningful raise offer and no movement on critical issues. While Carvalho negotiated a new contract for himself, he and the district are content to leave employees in limbo while sitting on $5.03 billion in reserves. For the first time, all eight LAUSD employee unions will rally together on November 6 at five locations across LA to fight for fully funded healthcare and our contract demands. The district has shown us they are in no rush to come to an agreement on healthcare and our contract demands. Thousands of us in the streets will show them we mean business.
