SCHOOL CHOICE
WEB PAGE
UTLA has successfully worked with parents and teachers to
submit proposals tailored towards the specific needs of each school,
and is now focusing on the School Choice
Advisory Vote on
Feb 2nd and 6th, and other upcoming actions. At the same time, UTLA
continues to strongly
oppose the school choice motion, has filed one lawsuit, and is working
with civil
rights
organizations
and district unions to investigate other legal options to fight this
motion.

UTLA has NOT agreed to furlough days
A January 27 memo, titled "Implementation of Furlough Days" from LAUSD has created confusion about whether UTLA members have accepted furlough days. UTLA is in talks with LAUSD on the fiscal crisis and our contract, but our negotiation team has NOT agreed to any furlough days, and if they were to, it would have to be approved by a vote of the UTLA membership. The employees that the Morris memo refers to are union members of SEIU Local 99 and CSEA only (who have already agreed to four furlough days for 2009-10) and “district-represented” employees (those not represented by a union).
