Chapter Chair Elections

Chapter Chairs are the critical contract enforcer, communicator, and lead organizer for your worksite.Having strong Chapter Chairs who drive organizing is how we build power and win higher pay, more staff, lower class sizes and caseloads, increased investment in Special Education, support for immigrant students and families, and other critical demands. 

Self-Nominations

The deadline to self-nominate is Monday, March 2, 2026.

Responsibilities of a UTLA Chapter Chair

  • Enforcing the educator rights in the UTLA contract at the worksite level through meetings with the principal, informal grievances, early stages of the formal grievance procedure, and collective action.
  • Helping colleagues connect to the broader issues represented by UTLA regional and citywide campaigns.
  • Helping colleagues connect to the broader issues represented by UTLA regional and citywide campaigns. 
  • Engaging colleagues in UTLA contract campaigns, political campaigns, and community organizing.
  • Being the primary point person representing UTLA with administration at your worksite.
  • Helping to build UTLA through membership and PACE, the UTLA political action committee. 

Chapter Chairs are supported in this critical work by a site-based organizing committee – the Chapter Action Team (CAT). 

Timeline for 2026-27 Election

February 2: Chapter Chair nominations

March 2: Chapter Chair nominations closes
Any member who is the only nominee from their chapter to self-nominate will be recognized as the chapter chair upon submission of a completed Notice of Chapter Chair Election Form. Chapters for which more than one person self-nominated will require an election to determine the Chapter Chair.

March 4-March 11: Notice and NOCCE form sent to all uncontested nominees
Email with NOCCE form will be sent to all uncontested chapter chair candidates

March 4-March 26: Elections at chapters with more than one nominee
The current Chapter Chair will be sent an email with instructions for having a Chapter Chair election conducted by an Election Committee.

After March 4: Open seats filled
Chapters with no nominees will have the seat filled by the first member to fill out and submit the NOCCE form.
